Andrew Dornstadter

U.S. Army
Lieutenant Colonel
Drew Dornstadter settled in North Texas when his father retired after 20 years of active duty service as an Army officer. Before graduating from Sherman High School in 2000, Drew attended the American Legion's Boys' State program and received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. On behalf of West Point's Admissions Department and then-Congressman Ralph Hall, he was interviewed by former Army Captain Drue Bynum.

Drew's military career spans 16 assignments, twelve extended duty tours, four combat deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, and service in two U.S. embassies. He's commanded troops in combat operations and served in the U.S. defense, intelligence, and diplomatic communities in support of U.S. national security. He's traveled extensively and has some proficiency in a number of foreign languages. He currently serves as the Deputy Chief of the Office of Defense Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in the Netherlands and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in March 2021.

Drew received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from West Point, a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri, Rolla, and a Master of Arts degree in Modern European History, Politics, and Society from Columbia University in New York. He is a fellow of the Jamestown Foundation's Young Professionals Program and an Aspen Security Forum scholar. Drew is a graduate of the U.S. Army's Airborne School, Engineer Officer Basic Course, Captains Career Course, Command and General Staff Officer Course, Defense Strategy Course, and Defense Institute for Security Cooperation Studies. He is a lifetime member of the Army Engineer Association, the Army Foreign Area Officer Association, the Association of the United States Army, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Drew is married to Kathleen Tiley, a lovely, brilliant, and encouraging partner from Carlisle, Pennsylvania, whose professional and academic work also supports U.S. national security. Drew's two children, Charlotte and Rex, give him immense joy and pride. They live in North Texas with Drew's former spouse, a talented and dedicated healthcare professional, and mom he admires very much. Drew is grateful to all of his family members, friends, and teammates – of every sort and from every chapter of his life, past and present - for supporting him and teaching him useful lessons about awareness, humility, compassion, endurance, survival, recovery, and growth.
